WHAT WE OFFER

Sporting Chance provides pupils, predominantly aged 11-16, with positive educational opportunities, in order for them to reach their maximum potential.

We provide high quality teaching and learning environments and mentoring, built on solid foundations of effective relationships between our staff and pupils. We accommodate for pupils on an individual basis, or in larger group settings. This enables the development and achievement of life-skills and qualifications for the pupils we work with.

We are able to offer bespoke sport and education packages based on organisation and/ or individual needs. For further information on how we can support you please contact us!

MISSION & STRATEGY

“We believe every young person should have the opportunity to achieve and succeed. We also believe, and know, that sport and physical activity can play a positive role in helping young people to achieve and succeed. We have personally experienced the power and value of sport, as either professional athletes, or experienced practitioners, working with young people and sport.

We established Sporting Chance to provide alternative education to pupils within Newport South Wales, using sport and physical activity as a key driver in delivering education to marginalised pupils across Newport. Our work aims to support pupils to develop a team spirit, improve self-esteem and confidence and enable them to become positive and active members of their communities.

We are proud about the way we have set-up Sporting Chance – a not for profit Community Interest Company. If our company makes a surplus, we will use this to achieve the aims and objective for our beneficiaries – pupils. We will be working closely with key partners, such as Newport City Council and education stakeholders across Newport, to provide alternative educational facilities outside the mainstream education system for marginalised pupils. Sport, is our tool. We use it to support all young people to provide a safe and inclusive environment, where they can be individually nurtured and mentored to progress educationally and in life.

We are passionate about giving pupils every chance that they deserve without discrimination. We want to enable youth development by delivering enduring outcomes for young people, who otherwise may be drawn into gangs, promoting criminal activity or developing extremist ideology.”

Working out of our facility at the Newport Indoor Football Centre, we provide programmes which fit with pupils (not the pupils into the programme). Our programmes are designed to make a difference to young people by:

Supporting them to re-integrate back into mainstream education and their communities

Giving them positive skills to transfer into their communities

Improve their behaviour, self confidence and self-esteem

Build their life-skills, such as communication, problem solving and working as a team

Provide them with a clear pathway into employment or further education/learning

Providing them with an environment and support to healthy mental well-being

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

We pride ourselves on making a difference to all pupils we work with. We use a variety of behaviour change techniques and models to help the pupils understand the positive progress they have made, during their time with us. This approach also helps us to share our impact, with partners and stakeholders, who want to understand the difference our programmes have on pupils we work with.

Diversity in our thinking and skills makes us unique. Our committed and passionate team is built on a mixture of elite sports athletes and education professionals, who have worked with some of the most vulnerable and challenging pupils across the UK.

When it comes to working with pupils, who face multiple challenges, our team all come from a common understanding, that is to engage, to encourage and to nurture pupils to participate in the educational journey which will have life long positive impact upon young people’s lives.
